“부처님께서는 생사 없는 이치와 다생 겁래에 한없는 생이 있는 줄을 더 아셨으며”

* The Buddha knew' 부처님은 아셨다', 동사가 먼저 나오고 목적어로 두 가지가 and의 앞과 뒤에서 나옵니다. 그 know의 목적어는 우리말로'생사 없는 이치 다생겁래에 한없는 생이 있음'입니다 우리말로도 쉽지 않지요? 하나씩 보면서 조금 더 익숙해져볼까요.

* 먼저 생사 없는 이치는 the principle(이치)을 먼저 씁니다. 그리고 that is를 쓴 후 뒤에서'생사 없는'이라는 말을 덧붙이고 있습니다. the principle that is free from birth and death 즉 birth' 태어남'도 death' 죽음'도 없음을 be free from이라는 구문을 통해서 나타내고 있습니다. principle(이치)은 이치인데 that is free from~ 뭐가 없냐면 that is free from birth and death 그러니까 생과 사가 없는 이치입니다.

* 두 번째로 아신 것은' 다생겁래(多生劫來)에 한없는 생이 있음'입니다. 한없는 생이 있음은 영어로 the existence of endless lifetimes입니다. existence는 존재, 또는 ~있다는 의미입니다. The existence of endless lifetimes 즉, endless(끝이 없는) lifetimes(생) 즉, 우리의 lifetime이 한 번만 있는 것이 아니고 끝없이(endless) 계속 된다는 것입니다. 그래서 the existence of endless lifetimes는'한(限)이 없는 생'입니다.

* 그 존재는 다시 태어남의 과정을 통합니다(through the process of rebirth through the process of rebirth). through(~을 통해서) the process(과정) the process of rebirth는 '다시 태어남'이 됩니다. birth(태어남)에 re(다시)를 붙여서 '다시 태어남'즉 계속 다시 태어나는 과정을 통해서 Endless lifetimes(한없는 생) 즉 다생 겁래가 있다는 것을 아신다는 것입니다.
